A few days ago, the Consell approved new undergraduate and master’s degrees for Valencian public universities. At the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, these will be the degrees in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Fashion Management, Technology and Innovation. Both will be taught at the Elche campus, while the master’s degree in teacher training will be allocated to the Orihuela campus.

In this regard, the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence will offer a total of 60 places and will be taught in Elche at the Faculty of Experimental Sciences. In the case of the Bachelor in Fashion Management and Technology, it will offer 40 places and will also be taught at the Elche campus, within the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences. Lastly, with the re-accreditation of the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education, Post-16 Education (Bachillerato), Vocational Training, and Language Teaching, it will offer 400 places and will be taught at the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences of Orihuela.

These two degrees reinforce the position the university has been pursuing in sectors that currently demand highly qualified workers, furthermore within a general framework of disruptive technologies and the digitalization of an increasing number of fields. Regarding the Data and AI degree, there is a real demand, and emphasis was also placed on everything related to big data—a field that, along with Artificial Intelligence, is currently undergoing deep research.

As for the Bachelor in Fashion Management and Technology, the planning of its curriculum was approved back in 2021. It connects directly with the textile and footwear sector, driven by the UMH Rectorate as well as the Footwear Chair and the Transformation of the Economic Model Chair. It is a degree that combines both the economic aspect of business management and financial studies with the fashion sector and its design, alongside a more technical component focused on production robotization and manufacturing technologies, which also includes Podiatry and Biomechanics workshops.
